Defining social justice art has been a topic I have been thinking about lately -and I've been thinking about it in regards to this intimate performance at Tatterwood Gallery by trio Kelvin Wailey.

Social justice art is about ethical modalities of making, engaging community, sharing processes, connecting to the big picture, functionality, promoting change, etc.

I am not going to define this performance as social justice art or not, just raise questions and try to highlight the power dance can have.

There was so much love in the space before, during, and after the performance. I have the good fortune to know the three women who make up Kelvin Wailey, Leila Awadallah, Emma Marlar, and Laura Osterhause. I infer that their work is made with love and a balanced power dynamic. They are as close as sisters.
